More than ever, people are discovering the benefits of yoga and flocking to study this 5,000 year-old tradition. Now is a good time to expand upon your practice and learn to share the gift that so many people are seeking.

Yoga Haven offers an in-depth teacher training curriculum at the 200-hour level that is in full compliance with accreditation standards developed by the Yoga Alliance.

At Yoga Haven, students can expect well-balanced training in a small, supportive environment taught by three highly qualified and supportive instructors who are dedicated to personal attention. Students are equipped with both the technical skills and confidence to teach an eclectic flow style class. Training will start in September 2007 and takes place over six months to allow for the full integration of the material into the student's practice and life. An additional one-to-two months may be needed to complete requirements. The training meets Wednesday nights 6 - 9 pm and five full Sundays 9:30 - 5:30 pm.

Whether you're an aspiring yoga teacher or just interested in improving upon your personal asana practice, Yoga Haven's teacher training offers a profound exploration of body, mind and spirit that will foster growth and healing for yourself and your future students.

Program Summary:

Participants completing this program will learn how to teach an eclectic flow style class geared towards beginners. It will include 36 hatha yoga postures and the Sanskrit names.

Anatomy and physiology will be studied. This includes the systems of the body, specific muscles and bones.

History, philosophy and ethics will be taught. Students will be responsible for reading the Bagavad Gita, The Yoga Sutras and a book of choice from the reading list. Written papers will be required on the above topics.

Classes on chakras, bandas, mudras, kriyas, restorative yoga, pranayama, and meditation are also included.

Additional Requirements:

 

  • Two additional yoga classes at Yoga Haven required weekly (24 level 1 classes, 24 any level, 2 Iyengar classes, 1 prenatal class = 51 classes total).
  • Eight class observations
  • Two class outlines
  • Group practices
  • Two in-class assists
  • Weekly yoga journal
  • History and philosophy papers
  • Written test & test classes
  • At an additional cost, two additional yoga events of your choice with written observations for each, and one Restorative Yoga workshop and a written observation.

 

Application Requirements:

You are eligible to apply if you have studied yoga consistently for a minimum of 1 1/2 years and have an established personal practice. It is helpful to have studied at Yoga Haven to be familiar with this style of yoga. This does not guarantee acceptance. Program Fees for 2008:

Application fee is $100 due at the time of application submission. Teacher Training fee of $2400 includes unlimited yoga classes for the duration of the program at Yoga Haven. $1900 due upon acceptance to the program. The remaining $500 due the first night of the program. Books are an additional fee of approximately $100. Applications received by July 1st 2008 receive $100 off the last tuition payment of $500.

Training Instructors:

  • Betsy Kase, Director of Yoga Haven, has been studying yoga since 1991 and is a certified Hatha Yoga and Prenatal Yoga instructor. She combines the principles of Ashtanga, Iyengar and Anusara yoga in her teaching and focuses on flow, breath and alignment, with a sense of lightness and laughter. Her pleasure is directing and teaching Yoga Haven's 200 hour teacher training yearly.
  • Jill Ganassi has been studying yoga since 1996 and teaching since 1998. She is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor and is dedicated to practicing and teaching yoga in the method and tradition of B.K.S. Iyengar. Jill is also a NY State Licensed Master Social Worker and is certified in Ericksonian hypnosis. Jill enjoys leading the history and philosophy portion of the Yoga Haven Teacher Training program. In her work with people as a therapist she combines traditional talk therapy with hypnosis, yoga, meditation, and body centered awareness, according to the needs of the individual
  • Kathryn Thompson was certified as a hatha yoga instructor in 1996, and has been practicing yoga for 17 years. Her teaching reflects the traditions of Kripalu, Iyengar and Anusara yoga, and is further informed by her work as a licensed massage therapist. Kathryn enjoys leading the anatomy and physiology portion of the teacher training.
