Why we don’t offer hot yoga…
Why Doesn’t Yoga Haven Offer Hot Yoga?
When Dana and I decided to re-open Yoga Haven in 2024, we had many conversations about the growing number of hot yoga studios in the area. There’s no question — hot yoga is popular. For some, it’s even the entry point into a consistent practice. It promises deeper stretching, detoxification, and a more intense physical experience.
But despite the appeal, we chose a different path — one rooted in safety, sustainability, and nervous system support. The truth is, there are important reasons why hot yoga may not be the healthiest (or hottest 😉) choice, especially over time.
Behind the Heat and the Hype
While hot yoga feels invigorating to some, the elevated temperatures (typically between 90–105°F with high humidity) can place significant stress on the body — especially if you're new to yoga or tend to push yourself hard.
Physiological Concerns
Excessive sweating can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, which may cause dizziness, fatigue, and cramping. In more serious cases, this can escalate into heat exhaustion or even heat stroke — especially when hydration and mineral balance aren’t carefully managed.
The cardiovascular system also works much harder in these conditions. Your body is simultaneously trying to cool itself and sustain physical movement — a double load that can be risky for people with heart conditions or high blood pressure.
The Flexibility Trap
Heat can create a false sense of flexibility. You might feel looser, but that doesn’t mean your body is ready for deeper stretches. In fact, the heat often masks your natural stopping points — making it easy to overstretch muscles, strain joints, or destabilize ligaments. Many people don’t feel the effects until hours or days later.
This is especially risky for those with joint hyper-mobility or a history of musculoskeletal issues. Repeated overextension can result in long-term injury rather than progress.
What we DO offer…
At Yoga Haven, we believe real growth in yoga doesn’t come from pushing harder — it comes from moving smarter, and attuning ourselves to the messages our bodies send. A temperate environment allows you to build strength, mobility, and awareness all while supporting your whole nervous system. Rather than overstimulating your body, we aim to help you recalibrate, down-regulate, and reconnect — enhancing your long-term sense of well-being and inner stability.
